Born 22 years before Bach, Murschhauser was a German Baroque composer who served as Kapellmeister of the huge Frauenkirche in the Catholic city of Munich for almost half a century. The "Prototipon Longo Breve Organikum" is a collection of organ pieces, meaning prototypes of various long and short instrumental pieces, which serve as preludes and postludes to the vocal pieces played in the service.
