The "Shostakovich Under the Shadow of Stalin" series - DG and the Boston Symphony Orchestra announced a five-album contract for Shostakovich's Symphonies Nos. 5-10 plus orchestral works, but changed their plans to record the complete symphonies after the acclaim of the first series. The prestigious Boston Symphony Orchestra, one of the Big 5 in the U.S., is a popular orchestra nurtured by Koussevitzky and Munsch, and Seiji Ozawa established its golden era from 1973 to 2002. With a young and talented music director, a new era is being established. This recording includes Symphony No. 11, which was a stunning masterpiece during the orchestra's visit to Japan in 2017, and Symphony No. 4, which has a strong Mahler influence, the largest orchestra, and is technically very difficult to perform.
