Description:

New recording by Alexandre Gathe, principal oboe of the prestigious "Orchestre de Paris"! Following Eric Aubier (cornet)(INDE152) and Vincent Lucas (flute)(INDE153), who are the pride of France, the kingdom of wind instruments, comes the third recording of music from Paris around 1900 by Alexandre Gathe, the principal oboe of the prestigious "Orchestre de Paris". Gathe began playing the oboe at the age of 7, and was awarded a gold medal at the Conservatoire de Toulouse at the age of 14. He has won first prize at the Fernand Gillet International Oboe Competition in 1999 and the International Oboe Competition in Tokyo in 2000, and third prize at the ARD Munich International Music Competition in 2002 (without first or second prizes). He is a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. This album concentrates on the music of Paris around 1900, the year of the Exposition, the largest ever held in the history of the Paris Exposition, which concluded the 19th century and marked the beginning of the 20th century. The superb music that emerged amidst the spectacular development of painting, architecture, music, and many other arts and cultures is depicted with the lustrous tone and superb technique of a master oboe player who has charmed many audiences.
