One of two more maps today by Ellie Ackers, by whom I had one other, of the southern states, sold last week. C. 1840s, this one--which took me a few minutes to figure out--depicts southeast Pennsylvania, with each colored shape I believe representing a township or county, with Montgomery county noted to northeast, Delaware county to the Southeast (just east of Philadelphia) and Teddyfrin township to the south--and so I believe that would mean it is Berks county at center, though I believe the borders and some county names have changed since the 1840s! A lovely and unusual one for someone from the neck of the woods depicted--or for someone (like me) happy to imagine all of the great folk art being created across this terrain when this map was made!
9 3/4" x 7 9/16". Good antique condition; the color seems to have been made with some combination of watercolor and stain/varnish. On laid, with some light rippling to the paper.
