This is a beautiful antique Makah/Nootka Northwest Coast Native American open rim basket woven of bear grass and cedar bark, just about my favorite type of basket in the world. Much more common to find lidded examples of these, but I especially love long, oval shaped ones like with a finished lip, opening gently outward. Finely woven, with still very strong dyed color to the woven patterns running all the way around, and a fully plaited cedar bark base. Early 20th century I believe, in lovely condition.
6 7/8" x 3" x 2 5/8" t. Very good antique condition. Frontal photos make it appear as though there is a bit more undulation to the form than there is; really it has held its shape very well. Strong dyed color, warm patina, no losses that I can see, lovely.
