Designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli (1911–1974) for Marguta, São Paulo, 1950s. Produced for his own showroom, the chairs reflect a high level of intentionality in both design and execution, positioning them within the core of Scapinelli’s contribution to Brazilian modernism.
The form is defined by a compact, well-balanced silhouette anchored by four slender, lacquered tapered legs. The upholstered volume is carefully proportioned, achieving a sense of visual lightness while maintaining a grounded presence. Subtle curvature along the arms and back articulates comfort through structure, a recurring theme in Scapinelli’s work.
The chairs feature newly upholstered beige suede, selected for its softness and tonal restraint. The upholstery pattern follows the original design, as documented in period publications. The original Marguta manufacturing seal, discovered beneath the prior upholstery, has been intentionally preserved and remains visible beneath the seat.
Presented in excellent vintage condition, this pair distills Scapinelli’s synthesis of comfort, craftsmanship, and modern clarity into a rare and thoughtfully resolved work.
