Oryza contains rice milk and owes its name to this (the botanical name for rice is Oryza Sativa). Rice milk is a very healthy (and tasty) drink and it is also very good for your skin. We make the rice milk for this soap in-house, from biodynamic basmati rice from De Nieuwe Band. This way we know which rice is in the rice milk, and that it only contains water and rice without unnecessary additives. This rice with the Demeter quality mark is grown according to biodynamic principles in Northern India. It comes from a Fairtrade project where the farmers receive a double premium. This may be due to previously used hair products; they often contain silicones, which make your hair shine and give it a smooth layer and you wash that out slowly with natural hair soap. Before that is completely washed away, it can therefore feel a bit greasy. In addition, your scalp sometimes really has to get used to it and regulate the production of sebum, this happens automatically. Werfzeep shampoo gives varying reactions to all types of hair, uncoloured or dyed, dry or oily, short or long, blond or dark. People with very long and/or dyed hair sometimes have some difficulty with it. Perhaps the rough feeling does not disappear quickly enough, but it is also possible that using this shampoo will calm an irritated scalp, disappear dandruff, dull hair will regain its own volume and frizzy hair will become less dry. Environmental information about Werfzeep originated in 2009 from Evelien's love for old crafts and natural products. During a trip through Canada that she and Laurens made, she ended up on an idyllic family farm where, among other things, soap was made, with a ladle and a huge pan. The wooden house smelled like a fairytale and on the very first day Evelien helped make soap. To her surprise, this handmade soap, which was in the shower and by the sink, was soft and caring for her skin. Having been plagued by eczema since childhood, soap had been a no-go for years, but this soap turned out to be a completely different story than everything she had encountered up until then, which mainly gave her tight skin. Soap made from oils is a completely different product than factory soap made from refined fatty acids, with additives such as foam improvers, synthetic perfumes and preservatives, from which the glycerine has also been skimmed off. This discovery was enough for Evelien to become completely fascinated by soap, the artisanal soap-making process, all possible ingredients and the effect on the skin. She started developing her soaps in a historic wharf cellar on the Oudegracht in Utrecht. Now, eight years later, she works with a growing team in the beautiful soap studio on the Westerkade.
