A Sovereign Relic of the British Raj
Capture a significant chapter of colonial history with this authentic 10 Rupees note issued under the British Administration in India. This series is famous for being the first to feature the portrait of the reigning monarch, King George V, moving away from the earlier, more plain "Abstract" designs of the 19th century.
Obverse (Front): Features a sharp profile portrait of King George V (1865–1936) wearing the Imperial Crown and coronation robes. The design is framed by intricate green geometric patterns typical of early 20th-century security printing.
Reverse (Back): Displays the denomination in eight different Indian languages (Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Burmese, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Gujarati). On the left is the "GRI" monogram (Georgius Rex Imperator), and in the center is a radiating Star of India.
Signatory: Features the hand-signed plate signature of H. Denning, who served as the Controller of Currency.
Watermark: Features the "Star of India" and the profile of the King.
Issuer: Government of India (British Administration).
Denomination: Ten Rupees.
Date: ND (1917–1930).
Pick Number: P-6 (Jhun&Rez 3.6A.1).
Serial Number: D/53 873079.
Grading: PMG 30 Very Fine.
Condition Note: PMG has noted "Spindle Holes at Issue, Pinholes, Annotation." These are culturally significant traits of Indian currency; notes were frequently bundled using spindles at banks or pinned together by merchants, proving this note’s genuine history in the Indian marketplace.
Collector's Perspective: The George V 10 Rupee is one of the most popular "Type" notes for world currency collectors. Finding an example in a solid Very Fine 30 grade is excellent, as these paper notes were subject to harsh humidity and heavy circulation. This note remains crisp with strong ink detail and clearly legible signatures.
