Hackers (1995) is a cyber-thriller directed by Iain Softley that delves into the underground world of teenage hackers in New York City during the early days of the internet. The film follows Dade "Zero Cool" Murphy, who, after being banned from computers for a massive hack at age 11, reenters the hacking scene at 18 under the alias "Crash Override." He joins forces with fellow hackers, including the enigmatic "Acid Burn" (Kate Libby), to uncover and thwart a corporate extortion scheme orchestrated by the nefarious Eugene "The Plague" Belford. Their battle against corporate corruption and law enforcement is a high-stakes game of digital cat-and-mouse, highlighting themes of youth rebellion and the ethical use of technology.
