I believe this snuff/tobacco box is Georgian, late 18th/early 19th century--I've found a few very very similar examples in terms of the construction and detailing of the box, most notably one sold by Greenwich Auctions in Connecticut (live auctioneers link here); the engraving on that one--of a woman amid a simple farm scene--was more elaborate, but the manner the same. And though unmarked, this is definitely silver. I fell in love with it though for that very delicately engraved crested bird, I presume a hen pecking away--very sweet and charming.
3 1/4" x 2 1/16" x 7/8". Overall very good antique condition. There is a bit of bend to the front short side of the lid--as documented. Since photographing, I cleaned a small area of the interior; it takes a little work but shines up beautifully.
