Take a step back into Ghana's post-independence history with this rare Specimen Banknote Set from the late 1970s. This complete 4-piece collection (1, 2, 5, and 10 Cedis) was issued by the Bank of Ghana as part of the "Banknotes of the World" series, a prestigious joint venture between Thomas De La Rue and the Franklin Mint.
These notes were never released into general circulation. Instead, they were produced in limited quantities for official presentation and high-level numismatic collections, making them a significant find for investors and enthusiasts of African currency.
1 Cedi (1976/77): Features a young girl on the obverse and a cocoa farmer harvesting pods on the reverse, celebrating Ghana's "Green Gold."
2 Cedis (1977): Depicts a local farmer on the front and traditional fishermen hauling nets on the back, highlighting the nation's primary industries.
5 Cedis (1977): Showcases a Ghanaian woman and the historic Larabanga Mosque, one of the oldest in West Africa.
10 Cedis (1977): Features a distinctive bust of an elderly man smoking a pipe and the architectural marvel of the Akosombo Dam.
