We Say

Based in Nanao City, Takazawa Candle is one of the oldest candle makers in Japan and many of its products are inspired by the local landscapes. The large Tohaku Japanese Candle pays tribute to ‘The Pine Trees’, a famous screen painting of Nanao City’s tree line by Tohaku Hasegawa. The thick pine-shaped candle emphasises the flame as an important element of the tree aesthetic and the light brown wax resembles tree bark.

Selector's Notes

The Tohaku candle is made from sumac. Despite its four-hour burn time, the plant-based wax generates very little soot and smoke.
