I SAID A SILVER MEZUZAH
-MEASURES 2.7 X 1.5 CM (FRONT)
-APPROXIMATE WEIGHT 5 GR
The commandment to place a mezuzah on the doorpost or threshold of the house is written in verses VI:6 and VI:9 of Deuteronomy, which say: “These words that I am commanding you today shall be on your heart,” and “You shall write them on the doorposts (mezuzot) of your house and on the gates (of your cities).” It is therefore a “mitzvah d’oraita,” a commandment of the Torah.
The mezuzah consists of two parts: the klaf, a rectangular piece of parchment inscribed on the front with verses from the Torah: Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21, and on the back the word Shaddai, the name of God, and the initials of the phrase "Shomer Dlatot Israel," meaning "Guardian of the Gates of Israel." The other part of the mezuzah is the case that holds the parchment, which can be made of any material and design. The important part of the mezuzah is the klaf, not the case.
