Pear - Mandarin - Spice

At a recent tasting, all of us - including our wine writer Claire Bullen - instantly fell head over heels for this orange wine. Three Australian white grape varieties are left on skins to develop rich aromatics and super zesty, punchy flavours - Zibbibo for its sweeter aromatics and waxy/oily mouthfeel; Fiano. because according to the winemaker, it's "badass"; and Moscato Giallo for its spritely acidity. Unico Zelo makes no additions of any kind, save for a touch of sulphur at bottling. There is no fining or filtration involved, with the wine allowed to clarify by gravity alone - resulting in a slight haze and sediment. The chief driver is pure drinkability - a 'scrumptious' quality, mouthwatering acidity and 'say hello!' tannins. A Bohemian at heart.
