History
On D-Day, June 6, 1944, U.S. soldiers were part of the Allied invasion of occupied France during World War II. Landing on beaches such as Omaha and Utah, they faced heavy enemy fire while working to establish a foothold in Europe. Their bravery and sacrifice helped begin the liberation of Western Europe from German control.
The standard U.S. Army uniform on D-Day included the olive-drab M1941 field jacket, wool trousers, combat boots, and the M1 steel helmet. Soldiers carried essential gear such as ammunition, canteens, medical kits, and weapons like the M1 Garand rifle. Paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions wore additional equipment and distinctive markings to support their airborne missions behind enemy lines.
