This painting is an exquisite work of art from the eastern state of Odisha, India. Talpatra chitras (Palm leaf etchings) are one of the earliest indigenous paintings of Odisha. A family tradition handed down through generations; the delicate Talpatra paintings are made by line drawings etched with a steel stylus on rectangular strips of palm leaves that are delicately strung together. The themes are mythological from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Krishna Lila, and most popularly, Lord Jagannath. Talapatra paintings are done on dried palm leaves. In this painting, Vishnu Dashaavtar has been depicted where artist has carved and painted each figure with great precision.
