This incredible piece dates to the 15th century Timurid dynasty. The flat pointed oval scaphoid bezel of this cast ring features a deep chisel cut nielloed one-line inscription in Nasta’liq cursive script surrounded by a diagonal line patterned border.
There is further nielloed chasing on the shoulders in the form of arabesque palmette-and-scroll ornament. The tapered shank, of a triangular cross-section leads to a raised diamond-shaped vestigial sprue (back-knob) decorated with engraved notches.
